Mélanie Joly, working hard for you in Ahuntsic-Cartierville

Mélanie Joly, elected to the House of Commons for the first time in 2015, is proud to represent Ahuntsic–Cartierville constituents in Parliament. In 2018, she was named Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie. Her tourism mandate is to grow, and increase the visibility of, Canada's tourism sector, which accounts for nearly two million jobs across the country. In her official languages and La Francophonie roles, she passionately safeguards Canada's two official languages and promotes the use of French in Canada and around the world, including in the digital sphere.

As Minister of Canadian Heritage, a position she held from 2015 to 2018, she promoted Canadian culture, announcing an unprecedented reinvestment in culture as well as the largest federal investment ever in official languages.

In addition to her ministerial duties, Minister Joly is a leader within Cabinet. She is a member of the Treasury Board and Chair of the Cabinet Committee on Environment and Clean Growth.

Prior to her entry into federal politics, Minister Joly founded Le vrai changement pour Montréal party and ran for mayor of Montréal in 2013 under its banner.

Minister Joly holds an Honours Bachelor of Law from Université de Montréal and a Magister Juris in European and Comparative Law from the University of Oxford. She is the author of Changing the Rules of the Game, in which she shares her vision for public policy and civic engagement. She was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
